Vaginismus

What is Vaginismus?


Vaginismus is an involuntary spasm of your vaginal muscles, which cause sexual intercourse or any sexual activity that involves penetration to be painful.


Risk factors include sexual trauma, endometriosis, episiotomy, anxiety.

Vaginismus symptoms may includes decreased sexual desire, burning and stinging pain during penetration.


What to expect from your appointment ?


Your women's health therapist will conduct a thorough case history about your health in general and any symptoms you present with.


The physical examination will include a general physical examination, a pelvic floor examination which may include an internal examination of your vaginal wall.


The treatment generally includes Kegel exercises, massage/release of the vaginal muscles, breathing exercises.


Your therapist will then advice you on lifestyle changes, exercises and other therapy that may help you.
